Dot to dot festival
Dot to dot this year started off feeling pretty underwhelming to tell the truth. With members of this very blog stating they “hate indoor festivals” and wishing they were “shot in the face” after about two hours, it wasn’t looking positive at all. This was down to having to queue in the pouring rain and the venues being more packed than about a thousand sardines in a miniscule can.

Sky Larkin -Dot2Dot Festival – Nottingham – 27th May 2007
Sky Larkin is definitely a favourite of mine, and of the blog-team as a whole. Thus, it’s with a heavy heart and much dismay that I don’t give this gig the glowing review that a band of their calibre deserve. Thankfully, with such high expectations it doesn’t matter too much when they fall slightly short. Click to read more …

Loney, Dear
Stunning is not an appropriate word to describe Emil Svanängen, aka Loney, Dear’s, voice tonight. While it is powerful and memorable it has a unique soft quality which allows him to subtly take over the room and slowly enchant the listeners. Click to read more …

Bonde do Role
This year is not just my first Dot to Dot, it is my first ever indoor festival. Even though I am slightly unsure of what to expect I can’t imagine anyone in my top five not pulling off amazing shows. There are some obvious choices left out, such as Erol Alkan, The Cribs and Metronomy who are far from needing any recommendation, my list is made up of bands you may have not made your mind up about.

Steve Winwood – Arc of a Diver
Steve Winwood is a fantastic soul musician. He’s not from Detroit. He’s not from Memphis. He’s from Birmingham. He’s not even black. Guess what? It doesn’t matter in the slightest.

In case you’ve not heard, i.e. you’ve been living under a rock in a desert, Dot to dot festival is an event in which millions of bands and DJs play the best non-shit clubs and venues of Nottingham and the punters create a new meaning for the phrase- “fucking wassssteeeed!”. It’s Sunday the 27th and it’s going to be insane. Here’s my personal choice of who should not be missed. Click to read more …

Gwen Stefani
Recently I have had some delightful musical surprises that I feel I only appreciate as deeply as I do because of my gender. So, as the only female writer for this phallic ridden music blog I have decided to post some treats from some great female acts to celebrate these aforementioned surprises. Click to read more …

The Beatles – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

It’s with great disappointment that I don’t introduce this album with “Here’s an album that needs no introduction,” but alas the 21st century is home to the evils of Guantanamo Bay, genocide in Sudan, and people who’ve never heard of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts.

Coursework deadlines dominated my last week, something that I would neglect and forget until till about 19:30 every day when I would sit at the PC, staring at the screen and crying about the lack of care that was going into this extremely important time of my life.
The one thing that kept me sane, that practically forced my crippled fingers to type and my blackened eyes to stay open was the calming, soothing, melodic and brilliant music of Menomena.
