Now, more than ever, it takes very little to get music enthusiast heads swimming giddily with garish sentences to pull quotes from and it takes even less to produce foam frothing at these mouths. “Music writers†don’t really talk about music much anymore; it’s more kind of an excited yelling which, although loud at first, will fade into silence pretty soon. It’s all about hype and about making sure you‘re not too late to the loud, inane, chattering party of hype.

I recently did a phone interview with Orlando Weeks from The Maccabees and while he literally couldn’t have been nicer, it was slightly frustrating to see the interview printed in The Nottingham Evening Post as a very edited, fragmented and watered down version of the original. So here is the interview with him in all its original, more music geeky form. It is pretty Nottingham-centric but suck it up and deal if you’re not from the lovely city Robin Hood and Brian Clough and other such duckehs.

After a break that may or may not have been more than just a week, Spotted Dick is back once again. The simple and pretty widely used idea is that we’ve built a playlist on spotify of new songs, slightly not so new songs, new discoveries and just plain old bangers for you to enjoy at will. Maybe this here Spotted Dick could also be used to “launch” the new .co.uk side of ths site. Personally, the upgrade to becoming www.itsnotforthecock.co.uk feels like I’ve finally tossed away the Velcro trainers and am swanning around flaunting my new shoelaced bad boys. Also, some of the more astute of you will notice there is now an ad on the right hand side. We want you all to know that none of the writers currently receive any revenue from this: it all goes directly to pay for our server and domain (and it is unlikely that even this is enough). The reason I tell you this is that we don’t want you to think that we’re doing this for the money – we are not. We only write about music because we love it, it’s for the music.

Offset festival is happening this weekend in some sort of near London location. More importantly, the line up is much more worthy of creaming yourself over than many of the other gatherings of music this summer. Blah blah blah…anyway, here’s a playlist of bands playing and they’re almost all jostling for position to be the most exciting band this year.
