Lindisfarne

It’s not for the cock, it’s for when the folk band playing outside H+M get a recording contract

Lindisfarne

Lindisfarne isn’t a band concerned with reality. Songs about actual events are far too obvious and cliche. No, the band whose first album was titled Nicely Out of Tune, reminisce about times that never were and yearn to go home to somewhere you’ve never been.

Gwen Stefani

Recently I have had some delightful musical surprises that I feel I only appreciate as deeply as I do because of my gender. So, as the only female writer for this phallic ridden music blog I have decided to post some treats from some great female acts to celebrate these aforementioned surprises. More >

It’s not for the cock, It’s for the Sanity

Coursework deadlines dominated my last week, something that I would neglect and forget until till about 19:30 every day when I would sit at the PC, staring at the screen and crying about the lack of care that was going into this extremely important time of my life.
The one thing that kept me sane, that practically forced my crippled fingers to type and my blackened eyes to stay open was the calming, soothing, melodic and brilliant music of Menomena.

We Smoke Fags

The London based trio We Smoke Fags are responsible for the electro based post-punk sound that has been seeping into so many of my playlists of late. The band, who are yet to be signed, have been making increasingly bigger waves in the London area for almost a year and I’m beginning to see what all the fuss is about.

Sky Larkin

Today (perhaps more than past days, perhaps not) it’s very easy to bandy around expressions such as “DIY ethics” and “art pop” but Sky Larkin are a band that seem to deserve such praising slogans. On their last tour the band (Katie, Doug and Nestor) asked fans to bring mixtapes to swap with them at gigs and their gig posters look like they’ve ripped them right out of their art work books. Mildly eccentric (counting their van– named “horse the van”- as a band member) and creators of wonderful summery pop, Sky Larkin seem to be making quite a name for themselves.

Everyone give thanks, we are THE PHYSICS have arrived and are here to save Scottish music from the sweaty, hairy, generic grip of The Fratellis. This Glaswegian foursome is the most promising act to come out of the country since Alex Kapranos wrapped his irresistible vocal chords around ‘darts of pleasure’. More >

Trophy Scars

There’s one reason that Trophy Scars are my favourite band, and it’s a reason why everyone else should give them a massive chance, and it’s that they are absolutely amazing. More >

It’s not for the cock, it’s for the summer

big-sir.jpg

I happened upon Big Sir through a recommendation and I am quite grateful for the tip as the group, in the
UK at least, are barely a pin prick on the music radar. This may come as quite a surprise when you consider that LA based Big Sir is made up of two of music’s celebrated musicians.

South Central

It’s not for the cock, It’s for the “Grinding Electronic Beats”

South Central

As the title suggests, my first post is about the Brighton based music duo South Central.
All the information I have been able to derive about them is straight off their myspace as they don’t seem to have a website yet. Currently touring with the Sunshine Underground, (Nottingham Uni, 4th May, anyone want to go?) and having previously opened for Klaxons (who entitled them “Cunts”, a massive compliment?) they seem to be doing quite well for themselves in spite of this.
