Loverman, Canterbury and Tellison/KCLSU/12.02.09
Gigs at student’s unions are usually at one extreme end of the hit or miss spectrum whether or not you’re a fan of the band playing but tonight at KCLSU the drinks are cheap, the sold out venue is perfectly suited and the music isn’t half bad. Except music of first support band Loverman. More >
It’s not for the cock, it’s for 2008.

Gavin: A lot happened in 2008. It seems so long ago now. Like any blog worth it’s salt and peppa though, we have decided to put together our best/worst gigs and albums of the year and used our clever little thinking boxes in our heads to have a guess (/dictate?) who will be floating boats in the next twelve months or so. Have a read and put us in our place about your favourite albums and who you think will storm 09…

Underground Railroad, Deerhoof/ULU/03/12/08
Before we can be hit with some wonderfully bizarre mix of Japanese and American pop tonight ATP are presenting the ULU’s sold out crowd with Underground Railroad who are a three piece currently residing in London via Paris which suggests the effortless cool the three piece positively ooze on stage tonight. Dananananaykroyd, Tubelord and Favours For Sailors/The Lexington/12.11.08
Gigs where even the local support band are something to get excited about are few and far between but on this non-descript Wednesday night The Lexington is hosting one and London based four piece Favours For Sailors are most certainly that band. More >

Bloc Party-Intimacy
2005 was the year that saw many of today’s stadium dwelling indie bands start their rise to the epic fame and fortune they enjoy today. Among the more obvious future heavy hitters such as Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers and Arctics Monkeys were four geekily dressed and impressively skilled musicians fronted a talented performer and lyricist. Dananananaykroyd, Johnny Foreigner/ Madame JoJo’s/ 30.09.08
It’s not often one sees a line up so simply perfect as tonight’s. A band whose recent debut can be expected to flutter around top twenty lists across the internet come this December and another who are going to find it difficult not to take over the world in the next two years if certain sources are to be believed. More >

Nail The Cross, 27.09.08
It’s that magical time of year again, when the students of the country are riding high on a new injection of what feels like free money, the sun is still shining and in East London there are the hippest of events to attend. Being added to the list this year is New Cross’ ‘Nail The Cross’ festival, a mix of art, music and barbeque filled beer gardens. More >

Rose Kemp is a powerfully voiced singer/songwriter currently based Bristol whose latest release ‘Unholy Magesty’ hit It’s Not For The Cock’s ears recently courtesy of One Little Indian. Big riffs, delicate yet striking keys and an almost unimaginably unique vocal performance make both the album and artist enticingly curios concepts. Luckily we were able to somewhat satisfy this curiosity by posing some of our questions to the artist herself. More >
It’s not for the cock, it’s for making Waves.
Sep 3rd
For around a decade now the charmingly emotive pop trio The Wave Pictures have worked their way through a selection of drummers whilst occasionally managing the odd burst of touring. Since changing their base to London the band have found themselves a home at moshi moshi records and have released the album ‘Instant Coffee Baby’, E.P. ‘Just Like A Drummer’ and numerous singles. Since this union the trio have also been almost constantly touring finding themselves as far a field as New York. So what do the band think about all of this? Singer and Guitarist David Tattersall kindly answers some of our questions. More >

The Dodos-’Visiter’
Two years after their debut release, American folk duo The Dodos return with their second album ‘Visiter’ (“misspelled because it’s from a drawing this kid gave us”. The pair have produced a record which is nothing short of a sheer delight using guitars, drums, keybords, horns and God knows what else to create a rich tapestry of acoustic, psychedelic indie sounds.
