It’s not for the cock, it’s for the rebirth of Spotted Dick

Let’s not concern ourselves with how’s the weather, nice see you. No formalities and preambling. Here’s a playlist:
It’s not for the cock, it’s for a Glastonbury preamble
Jun 16th
Wet your pants, it’s Glastonbury soon
It’s nearly that time again when a healthy portion of the British population decamps to a big farm in Pilton for a few days and everyone who doesn’t crosses their fingers for rain. When the BBC and the Guardian tend to forget anything else is going on in the world. When bona fide dreams are made, chemical excesses reached and body clocks pulverized.
It’s Glastonbury soon, logic suggests it is likely to be very, very good and so here’s a playlist of stuff what is going on at the festival.
It’s not for the cock, It’s for album of the decade 2
Dec 9th
Second up in our series of posts by guest writers is a man who not only founded the label Holy Roar, which boasts an impressive back catalogue featuring bands such as Gallows, Dananananaykroyd and Trash Talk, but has also destroyed stages, and probably lives, across the country playing with Cutting Pink With Knives and his new band Betty Pariso. It’s the most brutal and hardcore person we dare to associate with here at Cock Towers, it’s Alex Fitzpatrick and here are his thoughts about Meanderthal by Torche. More >
It’s not for the cock, it’s for a review of the decade
Dec 5th
The Recession, 9/11, The Internet, Terrorism, George Bush, July 7th 2005, Big Brother, Reality Television, Social Networking, Celebrity, Tony Blair, Online Shopping, The First Black President, The Smoking Ban, I-Pods, Borat, Banksy, Chavs…
In no chronological or logical order, these are just some of the things that the decade dubbed “the noughties” may be remembered for.
It’s not for the cock, it’s for a fresh Spotted Dick

Spotted Dick- 4th November 2009
We’ll keep the rambling pleasantries to a minimum today. You know the drill. And if you don’t, it’s not hard to figure out: here’s a playlist made on the one thing that, personally, goes any way into suggesting that there is in fact a God. i.e Spotify.
It’s not for the cock, it’s for a good sesh
Oct 13th
For some reason unbeknown to such peewee brains as my own, there is nothing quite like a good session by an artist you love. Whether it’s by a band whose album you know better than the way you subconsciously know the drunken stumble home when you go into autopilot at the end of a heavy night or a by a band you’ve never, ever heard of before- there’s definitely a lot of fun to be had by getting down with a session. A great session can provide a new, paradigm shifting perspective on old favourites as well as presenting a nice doorway to the realm of a particular, previously undiscovered band. Sessions can also make you go from pulling a face of mild contempt towards a song you think is just a  bit shit to looking like Augustus Gloop with a Wonka bar in his mouth because of the same- albeit differently recorded- song.
It’s not for the cock, it’s for a good work of fiction

Fiction @ The New Cross Inn, 24/9/2009
Now, more than ever, it takes very little to get music enthusiast heads swimming giddily with garish sentences to pull quotes from and it takes even less to produce foam frothing at these mouths. “Music writers†don’t really talk about music much anymore; it’s more kind of an excited yelling which, although loud at first, will fade into silence pretty soon. It’s all about hype and about making sure you‘re not too late to the loud, inane, chattering party of hype.
It’s not for the cock, it’s for spotted dick magic number three

After a break that may or may not have been more than just a week, Spotted Dick is back once again. The simple and pretty widely used idea is that we’ve built a playlist on spotify of new songs, slightly not so new songs, new discoveries and just plain old bangers for you to enjoy at will. Maybe this here Spotted Dick could also be used to “launch” the new .co.uk side of ths site. Personally, the upgrade to becoming www.itsnotforthecock.co.uk feels like I’ve finally tossed away the Velcro trainers and am swanning around flaunting my new shoelaced bad boys. Feels pretty good, let me tell you. Spotify, you great entity- what have you got for us today?

No Age- ‘Losing Feeling’ EP

After just over a year since their last release, the two piece LA mongers of noisy rock and experimental shoe-gaze named No Age are back with a neat four track EP.Â
It’s not for the cock, it’s for the Offsetify
Sep 3rd
Â
Offset festival is happening this weekend in some sort of near London location. More importantly, the line up is much more worthy of creaming yourself over than many of the other gatherings of music this summer. Blah blah blah…anyway, here’s a playlist of bands playing and they’re almost all jostling for position to be the most exciting band this year.
