Spotted Dick: Week 1
Â
With the invention of innovative, new technology comes the invention of innovative, classy little blog posts. One Ms. Lauren Evett has had the brilliant idea of creating a weekly spotify playlist on It’s Not For The Cock and calling it Spotted Dick! Best feature name ever?
The idea is to make a playlist of new bands/music we’ve discovered/band’s who have recently been in the news/songs we just like/what we’ve been listening to/whatever the hell we wanna put in it.

After a Thursday night spent tragically missing East 17, wondering from field to field in the rain, catching great sets my Kap Bambino and Metronomy and having the news of the King of Pop’s ™ death gradually filtering through from “blatant festival rumour†status to a full on “Oh Shit!†reaction (through the haze, I somehow remember sitting at the Stone Circle at about 5am adamant that it is actually a fake death by MJ to escape the crippling debt, child molestation accusations and massive workload of the O2 residency…seriously, mull it over! Well, it sounded ok at the time….)….ANYWAY, after all that and much more besides, it’s time for the festival proper to kick off with the full music schedule.

Its with this collaboration that the pair have released new album Blacklist which is seeing them finally making the waves they are capable of. Tonight’s UK album launch a Cargo is only proof of this. White Denim Fits (Full Time Hobby)
Where am I and what  in God’s name is happening? These are the thoughts that swim wildly around your mind by the time Fits has reached its third song, ‘Say What You Want’. The song starts with a riff that’s dirtier than sewer rat on crack before a stomping drum beat catches up and pulsates the song forwards in some sort of crazed voodoo groove. That’s all well and good. But when the song breaks down into a sweet, bluesy arpeggio before giving way to a fidgety sitar pinnacle with the drums sounding like they’re collapsing around you, you start to wonder how the fuck is this so enjoyable?

After the, perhaps slightly unexpected, brilliance of free download “No Kind Words†back in February and a handful of subsequent live dates dotted here and there, The Maccabees have finally released there second album, “Wall of Armsâ€, and return properly to the live setting a day later in their own glorious right.
